Renewable Energy Programs

PV TECHNICAL SALES-ONLINE
PV Technical Sales is designed for solar contractors and installers, electrical contractors, home builders, general contractors and others who sell solar PV systems. Topics include solar fundamentals, customer and site qualification processes, site analysis, system design, system components and estimation.

Prerequisites: ENTRY LEVEL SOLAR ELECTRIC TRAINING or  ENTRY LEVEL SOLAR ELECTRIC TRAINING – ONLINE AND LAB

Total Program Hours:          32 Hours

Required for Completion:    2 weeks

Course Requirements:

  • Full participation in lab and in-class activities
  • Completion of all in-class assignments and the final exam
  • 100% attendance

Total Program Cost:              $3045.00

Upon successful completion of program, student will receive a Certificate of Completion for S109 – PV TECHNICAL SALES

This course is accredited by the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ)

 

ENTRY LEVEL SOLAR ELECTRIC TRAINING – ONLINE AND LAB
This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of solar technologies and a study of the history and current state of the solar photovoltaic industry. Course content includes:

  • An introduction to solar radiation, photovoltaic technologies and systems
  • An overview of system types and components
  • Site survey and analysis techniques and methods
  • Electricity basics and an introduction to the NEC
  • Study of the design and use of grid-tied and grid-tied-with-battery-back-up systems
  • Introduction to inverters, charge controllers and other balance-of-system components
  • Overview of electrical utility systems and requirements for interacting with electrical utilities
  • Instruction regarding permitting, inspection, commissioning, documentation and labeling requirements and system maintenance practices and procedures.
  • This lab provides hands-on experience with solar PV equipment, materials and tools used in residential systems. Topics include site survey and shading analysis, PV module wiring, system mechanical layout and installation, mounting techniques and equipment, balance of system installation and safety practices and procedures.

Prerequisites: There is no prerequisite coursework. No solar industry experience is assumed. Knowledge requirements include basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and percentages, use of formulas, algebra and word problems), use of the Internet, problem solving skills, and the use of a calculator. Use of basic hand tools is required for lab participation.

Required for Completion:      2 weeks

Course Requirements:

  • Completion of all assignments and final exam

Upon successful completion of program, student will receive a Certificate of Completion and students are eligible to take the NABCEP Entry Level PV Exam.

SOLAR ELECTRIC LAB

This is the lab portion of the Entry Level Solar Electric Training and provides hands-on experience with solar PV equipment, materials and tools. Topics include site survey and shading analysis, PV module wiring, system mechanical layout and installation, mounting techniques and equipment, and balance of system installation. 



ADVANCED SOLAR TRAINING
Advanced Solar Electric Training is designed for experienced solar professionals who are seeking NABCEP PV Installer certification.

Advanced Solar Electric Training is built on and follows the updated NABCEP Solar PV Installer Job Task Analysis.  Completing the course will give you the 40 hours of education and 18 hours of lab needed to qualify for the NABCEP PV Certification under newly revised NABCEP eligibility rules for 2012. 

The course will cover a wide range of topics and present industry standard PV system design and installation best practices during this very intensive class.  As a motivated participant you will have the opportunity to gain valuable industry knowledge.  You will prepared to join the Solar industry as a:

·         NABCEP Certified PV Installer

·         Solar Business Owner

·         Solar PV Project Manager

·         Solar Salesperson

·         Solar PV System Designer

 

Prerequisite: For those with significant solar industry or electrical experience there is no prerequisite coursework. For those who are new to solar, completion of SE300, Entry Level Solar Electric Training, and a passing score on the final exam for that course are required. Completion of coursework from other training providers or a passing score on the NABCEP Entry Level PV Exam is also acceptable.

SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION PROFESSIONAL

The course concentrates on the basics of installing code-compliant photovoltaic systems. This course is IREC ISPQ Accredited and NABCEP Registered. The course prepares the student to pass the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam and provides the solar installer training required for you to pass the installer Exam.


Application in the Field - The essential training objective of this course is to provide a potential photovoltaic installer / technician / contractor with fundamental technical knowledge on photovoltaics in order to acquire skills and advance in design, installation and servicing responsibilities.


Total Program Hours:      72 Hours

Required for Completion:      4 weeks/72 Hours

LEED® GREEN ASSOCIATE PROFESSIONAL

Our LEED Green Associate course (10 hours) provides the educational requirements to pass the Green Building Certification Institute’s (GBCI) LEED® Green Associate Exam, as well as the Green Advantage Environmental Certification Exam. It presents the core concepts of sustainable design and all 9 LEED® Rating Systems®. Passing this first exam prepares you for the LEED AP+ status referred to as: Tier Two.

Admission Criteria: 

To qualify for admission you must successfully complete the following:  

High School Diploma or Equivalent



Application in the Field:  A LEED professional credential signifies that you are an active participant in the green building movement who contributes expertise to the design, construction, operations and maintenance of buildings and neighborhoods that save energy, use fewer resources, reduce pollution, and contribute to healthier environments for their occupants and the community.

COMMERCIAL LIGHTING ASSESSOR PROFESSIONAL

LED lighting is projected to be a $44 billion market within the next 3 to 5 years! Now is the time to get in on this growing industry. With exciting new LED lamps on the market, and government incentives for business to re-lamp to more efficient lighting, there is a growing need for knowledgeable technicians to perform a facility walk-through, determine the number and type of fixtures and lamps, conduct light metering within the various spaces, review the existing utility bills and make preliminary recommendations for upgrades. Designed for newcomers to the lighting industry, this course provides basic product type and application training for small commercial and industrial lighting. This course includes a distributorship with a US-based manufacturer of quality LED lighting products.

Admission Criteria: 

To qualify for admission you must successfully complete the following:

High School diploma or equivalent

Application in the Field:  In order for building owners/operators to upgrade to more efficient lighting, a knowledgeable lighting assessor must evaluate the existing lamps and fixtures and determine the projected cost savings, ROI and payback time.
